    CSW provides professional training for Interpreters Certified & Non Certified Interpreters working in a K-12 setting in Texas, Interpreter-Aides, ASL Teachers, Deaf Education Teachers, and Parents of deaf or hard of hearing children in Texas. To be eligible, participants must satisfy one of the two criteria below:

    • currently work or expect to be employed the 2019-2020 school year in Early Childhood through Grade 12 classrooms.
    • parents must have a deaf or hard of hearing child in Early Childhood through Grade 12.

    CSW provides sign communication improvement opportunities.

    • Improve expressive and receptive signed communication skills
    • Interact with Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing Professionals
    • Become immersed in a signing environment
    • Learn more about Deaf Culture and the Deaf Community
    • Be exposed to the difference between ASL and English Sign Systems
    • Be involved in a variety of activities highly conducive to professional growth and development

    Educational interpreters can advance their skills.

    • Improve expressive and receptive transliterating, interpreting, and sight translation skills
    • Prepare for the BEI Written Test of English Proficiency (TEP)
    • Prepare for the Basic and Advanced performance test
    • Learn more about how to be a part of the educational team while following the Code of Professional Conduct
    • Board of Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded.

    Cost:  $100 non-refundable fee, $125 for payments received after June 1, 2019

    Logisitics and Accommodations

    CSW begins on Sundays and ends on Thursdays.

    • Sunday 12:30p-9:00pm.
    • Monday–Wednesday 8:00am-9:00pm
    • Thursday activities 8:00am-12:00pm
    • Thursday afternoon and all day Friday ONLY for those CSW participants who have opted to take the BEI Performance tests and have previously scheduled their test through BEI.

    CSW is held on the Texas School for the Deaf campus at 1102 S. Congress, Austin, TX.

    Participants stay in campus dorms. No childcare is offered.

    Meals are provided from Sunday dinner through Thursday lunch. Professionals taking the optional interpreter performance test late Thursday or Friday may stay on campus Thursday night, but no meals will be provided after lunch on Thursday. (There are several places to eat within walking distance of TSD in addition to some restaurant delivery.)
